Ernakulam-Karaikal Tea Garden Express

The train initially used to ply from Mettupalayam to Cochin, carrying Tea and other products for export to other countries. Later, for a long time, the train connected Ernakulam to Tiruchi and then was extended to Nagore (post gauge conversion), running along the River Kaveri from Erode. It was the first train to be flagged off from Karaikal after broad gauge railway was laid in the former Dutch town.

I have travelled on this train from Nagore to Tiruchi on more than one occasion. It normally is never on time and the single line connectivity doesnt help much. The train is normally hauled by an Ernakulam ALCO and also has a First AC composite compartment.

Sections covered: Karur Junction-Tiruchi Junction.
